Artist eX de Medici discusses her work on display in the exhibition Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now.

eX de Medici is a voice of dissent in the Australian art world, known for her drawings and watercolours that use motifs of skull, helmets and gas marks entwined with flowers and ornament to interrogate the nexus of power, violence and greed. de Medici’s The wreckers (2018-2019) is featured in the exhibition Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now and is one of the artist’s most ambitious works to date. Set against the American flag, de Medici predicts in this epic watercolour an impending crash of capitalism and the financial and environmental destruction that could be left in its wake.
