Artist Savanhdary Vongpoothorn discusses her work on display in the exhibition Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now.
Savandhary Vongpoothorn is a Laotian-born Australian artist known for her textured abstract paintings that weave together diverse global influences including Scottish tartan, Laotian textiles, Buddhist mandalas, and minimalist abstraction. Within the exhibition Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now, Vongpoothorn’s painting Various levels (2002) hangs alongside contemporary and 20th-century abstract artists, acknowledging and celebrating women artists that have championed modernism and abstraction in Australia.
